Full Version: June 12, 2007 - Clarifications About Release Process
Metacafe Forums > Announcements > Announcements
Talia
Hi all,

Asaf, Miri, Efrat, and I noticed that there is still a lot of confusion regarding the new release system, so we wanted to explain it again, step by step.

1. You submit a video (thanks Kip). At this point, your video gets its first time stamp, which is only the time submitted. This is the date that will always appear on the Most Recent page.

2. The video is sent to our community of volunteer reviewers all around the world who use the Metacafe Pro Application to view videos. At this point, you can view the video online ONLY via a direct link.

3. Your video is released to the Most Recent page within 3 hours of submission, unless it has been removed by the Metacafe team for having content not suitable for Metacafe. At this point, your video is available by searches on the site and in our video library.
Note: If your video has not been released within this time frame, chances are the conversion process failed. If 24 hours have passed from when you submitted the video, please contact us at customersupport@metacafe.com with the link to your video.

4. Once your video has gained a certain amount of views and ranks, it will appear on the Highest Rated, Most Viewed, and/or Most Discussed lists (where applicable if the video qualifies). At this point your video’s time stamp changes for a second and last time.

5. Videos can remain on the Top lists on the Today page for up to 48 hours. Keep in mind that as other videos are released to the site, your video’s location on these pages may vary.

6. After 48 hours (at most), if your video still qualifies, it will move off the Today pages to the Top Videos pages and appear under the This Week section (followed by This Month) in the applicable sections.

We’d like to remind you that ALL videos gain views from Metacafe Pro up to 20,000 views. Keep in mind that views from the reviewers do NOT count towards your total views.

Some of you have pointed out that the Most Recent page hasn’t been updating. We’d like to point your attention to the drop-down menu by the Most Recent link. Click on it and change it to All Ranks, and you will be able to see that the page is, in fact, updating all the time.

For those of you who have claimed that Producer Rewards videos no longer have a shot, we’d like to point you towards the two first pages of the Highest Rated section. Out of the 30 videos appearing on these pages, 10 of them are PR candidates. This is actually a higher ratio than the PR and non-PR submission rate, meaning less than 1 in 3 videos submitted to Metacafe are submitted to PR.

The four of us are constantly making sure that your needs are being met. As with all changes of this magnitude, Metacafe will continue to conduct research into our system to make sure things are working well and in a way that will benefit our producers as well as our viewing audience.

We are confident that these changes will make Metacafe a more welcoming place to share your videos on, which will, in turn, increase the amount of people that visit Metacafe and increase the exposure of your videos.

I have a question, which has been puzzling a lot of people:

On the most recent page, how come some videos appear under the 3+ rating button, and others don't even though they are rated 3+? (they only appear in all ranks)...

I know the most recent pages don't get many views, but this is where, for a brief moment, videos get some exposure (and a chance to go up in rank) before sinking.
Given that the default page is the 3+ page, shouldn't all 3+ videos appear on that page?

I've seen some videos appear them, others not, and the process seems completely random to me...
MaKaVeLi
I asked that question to about 10 times the last few days ! so another 3/4/5 producers but talia did reply me that she and Asaf are looking in to the problem and since i released 2 videos in this time id really like views back since this is a mc bugg i presume...

Sam,

I think the ALL RANKS drop down shows all videos that have been released but they will not appear in the 3.0+ drop down until they have obtained enough views/ranks. When you use the ALL RANKS drop down you see videos that have 0 views. Talia can confirm this. Boy, we thought Metacafe was confusing before...

This fact doesn't tell anything. It could bee all 30 PR. But as everybody can see, at least half of these 10 will be rejected from PR (copyrighted music, slide show, no rights for video material etc). So these "PR" videos on HR page is just trash which is occupying good slots for real PR videos.

Zloy - I can't chec 30 videos to prove to you anything. I was giving numbers about videos that were not obviously-copyrighted. If someone breaks the rules, you can't blame us, you know.

Sam, Mak, and Kip - like I said in another post, I need to know if the video doesn't appear at ALL, or just not for a while (which means it's a cache issue on our end). I need to know because I need to know who to send this to.

This video: http://www.metacafe.com/watch/640477/becom...perglue_fuming/

This one: http://www.metacafe.com/watch/645048/how_t..._a_guy_in_camo/ did not appear for a while, and sunk in the meantime.
Talia

This is a bit deceiving because we all know that just because it has a banner does not mean it's a PR video...so...
after watching what has happened, here are the results of those "PR Candidates"

Looking through 60 pages of videos, in the past 7 days, only 2 videos have qualified for Producer Rewards.

The other one was:
http://www.metacafe.com/watch/639379/metac..._10_07_6_16_07/ which only has a 3.12 rank but got a boost from being a Featured Video.

Meanwhile...supervideoclips has had great success with 17 Videos on the FRONT PAGE currently with 6 on the first 2 pages

Now we watch:
http://www.metacafe.com/user/4047975/thetenderloins/
and see how they do with 4 videos on the first two pages, the only real PR Candidates.

OK I know there are alot of changes going on, but why not have a separate listing and tab for PR candidate videos that only previous approved producers can upload into. It can be secure where only "approved" Producers can upload into a secure section and not have to compete with "Family Guys , and Ripped videos" A new user would have to either pre-screen or apply or have prior approved status. If any producer is found to abuse that privelige they could be suspended or something.
Seems like original material needs to be separated from the run of the mill video. I realize there's a need for both but producers should not have to compete with Friends or Seinfeld ripped episodes.
kipkay
I have suggested two columns on the Today > Highest Rated pages. One with NON-PR videos and the other with PR videos but they don't like that idea. Maybe I'll build a 'mock-up' and see what happens.
shanuea
I followed this video closely and am pretty sure it wasn't released to the most recent. Can you check it out Talia?

Talia
It was, and it was released to the top pages the day after you uploaded (the 11th).
