Metacafe has always been about bringing you the most entertaining videos around. As part of that mission, we are pleased to announce development of the Director’s Cut, a channel that will take entertainment to the next level by celebrating and showcasing the true filmmakers on the web.

Currently in its pilot stage, Director’s Cut is a viewer-nominated, editor-approved channel that honors the art of storytelling and the craft of filmmaking. As Metacafe insiders, you know what you want to see better than anyone else. That’s why we’re inviting registered users to nominate their favorite user-generated videos for inclusion in the Director’s Cut channel. Click here for the Director’s Cut guidelines. To ensure that the channel stays true to its mission, our editors will review your nominations and help fit them to one of the following categories: comedy, action & drama, animation, or documentary.

You’ll notice that we’ve added a new “Nominate for Director’s Cut” button on the video pages of Producer Rewards videos and candidates. This button lets any registered user nominate a video for a specific category in the Director’s Cut channel.

When you upload a new video, you also have the option of submitting it directly by going into the Director’s Cut channel and choosing the appropriate category. Once uploaded, this video will automatically appear in your user channel and be considered as a Director’s Cut nominee. Metacafe editors will evaluate these nominations weekly and decide what fits.

Consider Director’s Cut our way of rolling out the red carpet for the next generation of independent filmmakers. We’re all about people’s choice, people! So make your opinion heard by previewing Director’s Cut now and nominating your favorite original videos.

Expect more fanfare for Director’s Cut in the coming weeks. With the official launch, we’ll be promoting the channel on the site and helping Director’s Cut videos get additional exposure.

Wooo..great to see this being added. Now...all those MC filmmaker can show what they have..I am talking about Tomboys in Fishnets, Gag films, Keith, Steven and many more!

Viewer nominated, editor approved! Hopefully it'll be the best of both worlds and will help facilitate Metacafe getting the content it wants on the site while still giving the majority of the power to the people.
