Hi all,

Looking for an easy way to showcase all of your Producer Rewards videos? Let me introduce you to the newest feature on Metacafe: User Channels. From now on, your video page is actually your own channel with an easy URL to showcase your favorite Metacafe videos in one place.

When you click on the Channels tab, Metacafe’s regular sorting options are available, such as Highest Rated and Most Discussed. Now we're introducing a new sorting tool: Show only Producers. By clicking on this option, you can view only channels that contain original material by Metacafe’s producers.

One of the advantages of these user channels are subscriptions. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, from now on, whenever you find a channel that you like, you can subscribe to it and receive email notifications every time the channel is updated. It’s the easiest way to keep up with your favorite creators, too!

Have you ever watched a great video on Metacafe again and again? Now you can save your favorite Metacafe videos in your channel so you and all your friends – and subscribers – can watch them too! Just click on the Add to Favorites icon appearing above your favorite videos on the video page.

The channels contain tons of cool features, such as avatars, extended stats including honors, quotes, information, and channel comments.

Your channel is a representation of your personality, your creations, and your favorite videos. So get to work and express yourself!

First off, I love the new channels. I do have a few suggestions, but for now, this is an excellent move in the right direction. The two things I would love to see is a friends section and being able to feature one of your own videos at the top of your channel where the user can just click play and watch it.

Anyway, this is awesome. It is an exciting time to be on MetaCafe.

GREAT! Awesome new features! Now instead of compiling an email ist, you can just give people your Channel link and tell them to click "email subscription". I like the summary info too! Great job, Metacafe!

A have a question about the new Channels.

Whenever I load my Channels, I get the Help screen. Any way to disable that? Is it just temporary until everyone sees their Channel?

Thanks!
Darlene
Talia,

Great news about the Channel addition. On my wish list would be the option to sort our videos "By Title".

All my best,
Darlene

I promise to pass on all of your suggestions and requests. And welcome, Darlene! smile.gif

Hey Kip,

It should only appear the first time. If your browser settings are not allowing for cookies to be set, the page is fooled to think you're a 'first-timer' each time.

cheers,
Uri

I do have cookies set. If it is just me then I will take a closer look at the settings. Thanks.

Also, It does not appear that when you click the "Produced" tab and then sort according to "Earnings today" is working. 'Today' and 'Ever' is giving the same information.

Thanks!

I just heard from some other producers that they're having the same problem. I've submitted it to our QA dep. Thanks for letting us know.

Having the same problem. Love the channels. I don't think the e-mail subscriptions are working yet.... I'm on Kip's e-mail list and when he released his latest video, I never got an e-mail.

Other "wish list" items:

Remove the ability for users to thumbs down any comment. This should just be available to the producer who posted the video. If it's offensive, the producer can delete it. Why would a user need to thumbs down a comment any way?

Have the ability to create custom channels (Tomboy's idea!) to sort your videos however you want them. (ie. one channel for MC News, one for magic tricks, one for comedy skits etc.)

A pop up window with a picture of Miri smiling every time I go to my page (ok... I know that one's far fetched but hey.. it's MY wish list) LOL

Great features, I like Metacafe on this for thinking to further develop the user/community tools. Features like that were something of normal stuff on Youtube, I'm glad that you think the same and came out with a similar response.

It brings and eases the user experience at a whole new level. Many Thanks!

In case you haven't figured out the channels yet, MC News just uploaded the tutorial for channels! http://www.metacafe.com/watch/740940/metac...channel_review/

Check it out and subscribe to my new channel to be notified of new metacafe news episodes!

Thanks,

Looks like the Earnings tab that shows Today/Ever is working now! Cool, Thanks support!

Another quick question for support. In the comments section of my user channel, it does not look like there is a correct sorting of the comments based on date. New comments appear somewhere in the middle of all of the comments rather than at the end. This makes it real difficult to find new comments posted. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hey Kipper, could that be because of the "rating" of the comments?
kipkay
No, because the new ones have similar ratings as do the others but when entered drop somewhere in the middle of all of my comments.

Look here...

Hey Kip,

I just went and looked at your channel - and from what I saw - I think they are all listed right - If you take any particular rating (say +3) and look at all of the +3's together as a "block" - The latest one that was posted is at the top of that block - then they go down based on the age - the older the post - the further down in that "block"

Then when it goes to the next "block" of posts (rated +2) it does the same thing over again - the newest post in that block is at the top and they go down based on age.

At least I "THINK" that's what I'm seeing...

kipkay
Okay that does appear to be the way they are sorted but should it be that way or by date like normal comments on a video?
instgtr

Hi Again Kip,

I took a look at the comments on your videos (versus your channel) and it basically runs the same way - with 2 differences - in the "channel comments" the actual date is posted - in the video comments it says how "long ago" the comment was posted - which of course confuses the hell out of the issue - but then to go and make it even MORE confusing, the video comments have two columns - one for comments and a second for replies - now that REALLY throws a monkey wrench into the works - actually to simplify the matter all you have to do is take a look at the thing-a-ma-jig that sits on the what-ya-ma-call-it that makes the jolly-pop activate all three sets of vortex generators, resulting in the bi-lateral-oscillation of the low-pressure side of the wing-ding assembly.

See? - it's not all that complicated...
kipkay
The JOLLY POP! Of course! I should have known! Thanks!

Any chance there's a way to have a player that can go on a blog or a MySpace that will automatically play the latest video added to a channel? Or perhaps is there a widget that starts by displaying a list of the latest videos on a channel and then allow users to click on them to watch them right there in the widget? I'd be fine if the widget were big enough to include a couple ads and a link back to Metacafe.
kipkay
Hi thepete,

Welcome to Metacafe and the forums!

You cannot auto-play a video that is in the Producer Rewards program because Metacafe wants viewers to actually view videos and not have a site autoplay them whether they are viewed or not. There currently is not a widget but you can take advantage of the RSS Feed for your channel and post that.
