I've been having a ball with it! I reviewed videos all evening. Mainly hitting the spam videos. And let me tell you........ there are a lot!!!! I had no idea there were so many!!!! But I to wonder about the things you bring up Kip. I would also like to ask if a person constantly abuses the system and keeps hitting the "Not suitable for MC" button on videos that are suitable, will they be blocked from using the feature? I think if it's used properly it would help everyone. I know there has been some questions lately about videos that aren't getting a starting rating. I think this could help that problem. And really it won't be much different than the app review. I know a lot of us has had our problems with that system and asked for a change. Who knows...... maybe this will make it more fair, and block out a lot of crap that shouldn't be here to start with. Fingers crossed! I really hope this works out!

Ditto on the amount of spam out there, Jeff, I really had no idea how many MLM/FREE CASH/FOREX scam videos were being submitted. It's truly amazing that people fall for that Ponzi scheme stuff. But, a fool and his/her money are soon parted...
As for the new review process, again I have to agree with Jeff. I spent a while last night dogging Jeff's heels reviewing videos. I actually think its way better than the app review process, since I can now comment on why I am rejecting a video, then right after that, I can use the Wiki to edit the garbage they are putting in the description, tags, and related field.
To that point, I'd also have to point out the other side of Jeff's question, will there also be anyone monitoring for users that are abusing the system by consistently approving spammy junk? Its sorta related to our Mr Cook/Ms Cook/Cooldowner issue, a single user going crazy and abusing the system.
Overall, I think it is an improvement. I'd really like to see it added to the Pro App.

QUOTE(kipkay @ Aug 21 2008, 10:18 AM) More Questions:
Can we see the activity on our videos when they are in the review process?
Can we see the reasons a video is rejected on our videos? You can see a lot of stuff in the advanced Wiki page history. For example in this video: * (cur) (last) 10:23, August 21, 2008 Eric4x4 (Talk | contribs | block) (712 bytes) ({{Rejected}} Video is not suitable for Metacafe. Reason: Software ad, no entertainment value.) (rollback | undo) * (cur) (last) 10:21, August 21, 2008 Anndawnhanson (Talk | contribs | block) (649 bytes) ({{Approved}} Video is suitable for everyone, changed video categories Comments:I thought that it was....not something for me) (undo) * (cur) (last) 10:21, August 21, 2008 Fneill (Talk | contribs | block) (563 bytes) (Submitted on 21 Aug 2008 06:44 UTC by fneill / Duration 0:42, Record 1648812)

Hello Producers,
Glad to hear the positive response on the new Review tab! We're a little late announcing the new Review on the forums and blogs -- sorry about that, the launch date for any new feature is always a moving target as we go through QA and bug fixes (and sometimes roll back features if we experience killer bugs). In any case, let me try and answer Kip's questions --
How many "Video Not Suitable For Metacafe" marks can kill a video?
Answer: None. Every video receives a minimum threshold of reviews before getting out of "review" status. If the video leaves the review status marked as "Not Suitable," it goes to a Metacafe administrator who then examines it and decides whether it should be released or blocked.
What happens to the video after it has been Reviewed?
Answer: After the video receives the minimum threshold of reviews and is deemed "Suitable for Metacafe" by the reviewers, it's released to the viewers on Metacafe.com and Metacafe Pro. How much exposure the video receives depends on how high the video's VideoRank is. A video with really low VideoRank may only ever be searchable, whereas a video with high VideoRank will show up on our homepage and as an "Audience Recommendation." A video may come out of review with a low VideorRank but somehow catch popularity after it's released to the public, in which case it can still show up on our homepage and as an Audience Recommendation.
Does MC staff confirm the video decision?
Answer: MC staff reviews all videos that leave the review process with a "Not Suitable for Metacafe" flag, and makes the final call on whether or not it should be released to the public or blocked.
What happens if a video gets 0 reviews?
Answer: If a video keeps on getting ignored by reviewers (perhaps poor thumbnail or metadata), it gets taken out of the review process after a certain amount of time, and the item is treated as if it has a super low VideoRank (only searchable or if you email a link to the video directly to someone).

Thank you so much for the info Sherry! Nice to meet you BTW! I have high hopes for this new feature! Erk, it seems our death threat guy is back. I came across some of his new videos while reviewing. He's still tagging his stuff improperly and making the same crappy videos in the same style as before. I tried fixing his video info with the Wiki feature. I wonder if he will come after me again LOL. Here's his new account. http://www.metacafe.com/channels/mouseworks/I found it because he marked one of his videos Cooldowner on the title. I also wonder if he's the one who's been trying to take down my rating on my new video. Not to mention trying to erase all my comments on that video too. Mak, I'm with ya dude!

Sherry Thanks! One more question. Does this new review process supersede the old way with the application? In other words, can you still review videos in the app. Will it be both?

In other words, can you still review videos in the app. Will it be both? Hi Kipkay, For now, the new "review on the web" process co-exists with the Metacafe Pro reviews. This may change in the future if we get enough reviewers/reviews in the "web" process to replace the Metacacfe Pro reviews. Sherry
